Event Summary:
Each Region in CPHR BC & Yukon hosts a Generalist Roundtable, open to all members, regardless of your level or area of practice. Roundtable topics are varied and the focus is on sharing information, strategies, solutions, lessons learned as well as practical tips, tools and techniques. All generalist roundtables are open to members through the association – the primary audience being the region in which the roundtable is hosted to maximize connection and networking, while learning.
Topic: Performance Reviews
If you haven’t provided the feedback, how can you expect the employee to meet the expectation?
As business leaders, we expect a lot from our workforce, but what are we doing to ensure that employees have a clear understanding of expectations, and how are we supporting them to be successful in their roles? Annual performance reviews are one good way to accomplish this, but only when the coaching, training and mentoring is happening in the moment... not just once a year! At this round table we will discuss how to successfully use performance appraisals to offer valuable employee feedback.
Roundtable Facilitator: Joanna May, CPHR, works as the Director of Human Resources at the “Victoria Association for Community Living”, and was the 2020 recipient of the “Award of Excellence – HR Professional of the Year” honour. Joanna is an executive board member at “Leadership Victoria”, serving as the Vice President / HR Lead, and is the host of CPHR BC & Yukon’s Labour Relations Round Table on Vancouver Island. Joanna is a highly organized individual who is fair, logical and pragmatic in her approach, and has a deep-rooted interest in Labour Relations, Strategy, Learning & Development.
Roundtable Host(s): Meredith Campbell-Jess, Manager of Professional and Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University, has a background in learning and training, with over 18 years experience in both private and public sectors. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Management from RRU and brings the natural ability to view problems through the eyes of the employee. In her current role, her portfolio includes the for-credit graduate certificate programs and the open enrollment suite of programs. She is continuously planning for improvement and looking for opportunities that foster positive change in organizations. Striving to find innovative possibilities, she loves helping people find opportunities for success and growth.
Roundtable Host(s): Jackie Connelly, CPHR, Organizational Development and Employee Experience Leader at BC Transit, began her career in human resources at Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) and is currently a member of the People and Culture team at BC Transit. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from UBC and a Post Degree Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resource Management & Leadership Option from Camosun College. Jackie has previously been responsible for transit operator recruitment, launching a new, organization-wide employee recognition program and providing HR generalist advice to a variety of client groups including asset management, IT and finance. In her current role, she plays a key role in managing change by leading and supporting the development and delivery of HR strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures that support and empower people to do their best work.
