Program Summary:

Mentoring is indispensable throughout your career. Regardless of the stage of your career, mentoring will enhance your personal development through a shared relationship with an experienced, knowledgeable professional willing to share their skills and perspectives with you.

This course will prepare you for a mentoring relationship by orientating, guiding and assisting you to enhance your professional development whether your role is that of mentor or the protégé.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Describe mentoring and different types of mentoring
  • Describe the mentoring relationship and the benefits to all parties
  • Understand the role of the mentor and the limits to that relationship
  • Define the role of the protégé and the inherent responsibilities in that role
  • Describe accountability in the mentoring relationship
  • Describe what mentors expect of the protégé
  • Demonstrate effective mentoring – protégé practices including
  • Clearly defining expectations of the relationship
  • Accountability to the mentoring relationship
  • Set ground rules for the mentoring process and relationship
  • Plan for a mentor meeting
  • Good communication skills in the mentoring process
  • Ability to ask good questions
  • Write SMART goals
  • Develop a plan for the first meeting with your mentor
  • Navigating the challenges
  • Define success for your mentoring relationship

A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for cancellations submitted at least one week prior to an event or workshop. Attendee substitutions are permitted; however, member/non-member rate differences will apply. Please note that this policy does not apply to conferences, exams or no-charge registrations. CHRP exam fees are non-refundable if registration is canceled after the registration deadline.
