PEOPLE & COMMUNITY A Community of Practice for members and non-members who are currently working in people operations in the not-for-profit sector. This Community of Practice brings together practitioners of people practices in non-profit industries. We know our industry is incredibly resilient, diverse and unique. We believe in the capacity of people to effect change and we know it starts with us supporting each other. Questions we ask ourselves are growth centered from a place of creating value for our organizations. We gather to learn, to share, to uplift, and ultimately to create better people practices. Join us for an engaging open discussion specifically for Human Resources professionals in the non profit and social impact sector. This is a unique opportunity to bring forth your questions, share experiences, and explore best practices in a collaborative environment. Whether you’re grappling with recruitment challenges, seeking advice on best practices, or looking to optimize your HR strategies, our forum provides the perfect platform to connect with peers and industry experts. Don’t miss out on this chance to enhance your toolkit and drive your organization’s mission forward. Community of Practice Host Sharde Long, CPHR, believes in building stronger communities by bringing people together. Her work in Human Resources and Labour Relations has followed naturally from the belief that working in this sector is about building stronger communities through authentic connections and clearly defined rules of engagement. She loves finding creative solutions to complex problems and building vibrant workplaces through structure, culture and training resources that serve both leaders and their teams.
Sharde’s creative approach to solving complex problems has been recognized by CPHR BC & Yukon, awarding her both the 2020 Rising Star Award and the 2024 HR Spotlight Award. Her education includes a post-degree diploma in Human Resource Management and Leadership from Camosun, an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus on Human Motivation from UVIC, a certificate in Workplace Investigations from the Workplace Investigation’s Network, and a certificate in Community Leadership Development from Leadership Victoria.
Currently, Sharde is a HRLR Consultant with CSSEA where she continues to be committed to fostering inclusive and empowered communities through her work. Outside of work, Sharde can be found volunteering with CPHR BC & Yukon as the host of People and Community, a member of Camosun’s HR Program Advisory Committee and for Power To Be.
