Event Summary:

The Roundtable Leader will guide the dialogue and encourage participation.

Topic: April Fools: I Made a Mistake and This is How I Recovered
Fear of making mistakes can cause paralysis and anxiety in otherwise good leaders. Yet some of the greatest learning by leaders and entrepreneurs comes from “failure”. Sharing stories of mistakes gets us through feelings of shame to uncover key lessons and lights the way to graceful recovery. Cherolyn Knapp will share stories on some of her most cringeworthy mistakes as a former litigation lawyer and how she recovered, including how to say “I’m sorry” while inspiring the confidence of those around you.

Roundtable Facilitator: Cherolyn Knapp, Knapp Resolutions, is a conflict resolution consultant, mediator and facilitator based in Victoria, BC. She grew up on the shores of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound, Ontario and earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources) from Ryerson University in 1995. Before becoming a lawyer, Cherolyn worked in human resources, non-profit and business management roles, after which Cherolyn attended law school at the University of Ottawa and graduated cum laude in 2003. She was admitted to the bar in Ontario in 2004. In 2019, she turned the focus of her practice to dispute resolution as a neutral.

Roundtable Lead: Meredith Campbell-Jess, Manager of Professional and Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University, has a background in learning and training, with over 18 years experience in both private and public sectors. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Management from RRU and brings the natural ability to view problems through the eyes of the employee. In her current role, her portfolio includes the for-credit graduate certificate programs and the open enrollment suite of programs. She is continuously planning for improvement and looking for opportunities that foster positive change in organizations. Striving to find innovative possibilities, she loves helping people find opportunities for success and growth.

Roundtable Lead: Jackie Connelly, CPHR, HR Consultant – Organizational Development at BC Transit, began her career in human resources at Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) and is currently a member of the human resources team at BC Transit. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from UBC and a Post Degree Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resource Management & Leadership Option from Camosun College. Jackie has previously been responsible for transit operator recruitment, launching a new, organization-wide employee recognition program and providing HR generalist advice to a variety of client groups including asset management, IT and finance. In her current role, she plays a key role in managing change by leading and supporting the development and delivery of HR strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures that support and empower people to do their best work.
