CPD Hours: 1.5

Event Summary:

The HR Approach To Terminating Employment Is Broken, And Here's How To Fix It

Many human resources professionals tend to approach the without-cause termination of employment relationships in a very similar fashion, by issuing a letter of termination and enclosing an offer in exchange for the employee signing a release.  From a legal perspective, this is a very risky approach.  There is a better way to approach the termination which eliminates all the risk.  Do you want to know what that is?

Robert Smithson is a graduate of Dalhousie Law School and has spent his entire career practicing labour/employment law in British Columbia. He’s represented them all – unions, employers, and employees – and he brings that wide- ranging experience to the table on behalf of his clients. He’s been practicing law for 23 years and has appeared in front of more courts and tribunals and arbitrators than he cares to count. But his focus is on fixing problems rather than fighting about them, and that is the attitude and objective he brings to his clients located throughout B.C.
