5 Steps to Great Communication
 
This informative and interactive session will:
- Reveal the costs of poor communication and benefits of good communication
- Outline 5 key traits needed for improved communication
- Identify key ‘inside’, ‘outside’, and ‘alongside’ target audiences
- Summarize the who, why, what, how and when of effective communication
- Explore the link between communication and collaboration
 
Joanne de Vries is a communications specialist who has worked with all levels of government for 25 years to help them connect with residents about sustainability-related topics such as community planning, water and wastewater management, air quality, energy efficiency, solid waste reduction, and active transportation. Specific services include community outreach and engagement, communications audits and plans, project branding and key messaging, and workshop design and delivery. In 2006 she established the Fresh Outlook Foundation (FOF), the passion of which is inspiring community conversations for sustainable change. To that end, FOF hosts events such as the Building SustainABLE Communities conference, CommUnity Innovation Lab, Eco-Blast Kids’ Camp & Concert, Reel Change SustainAbility Film Fest, Fresh Dialogues, Breakfast of Champions, Women 4 SustainAbility, and Talking DIRTy x 10,000.
