HR practitioners gather and discuss a specific topic
related to the field of Human Resources. A Roundtable Leader guides
participants through the chosen topic for sharing of knowledge, strategies,
lessons-learned, and practical tips, tools, and techniques. Participants will

Topic: Addiction in the Workplace
Statistics Canada reports that one in 10 Canadians report symptoms consistent with substance dependency. While substance abuse is clearly not new, many employers and co-workers struggle with how to best support an employee with a potential substance abuse issue. Many have no idea what to look for or how to have those "difficult conversations". This presentation talks about what addiction is, what to look for, how to address it in the workplace and the importance of early intervention.
Lisa Stockton - throughout her tenure at Edgewood, she has been instrumental in developing customer service solutions for professional referrers, resulting in a strong and stable referral base for Edgewood. The CCS position was a natural fit for Lisa, considering her strengths in developing wide and loyal networks of professionals.
Joel Hughes, MA - prior to coming to joining the Edgewood Health Network, Joel served as the Executive Director of Elk Island Child & Youth Ranch, a youth treatment facility in Alberta. He has worked at Edgewood in a Clinical Supervisory capacity since 2008 and has recently successfully completed his Masters degree in Leadership at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC.
