High Times in HR : Marijuana in the Workplace

A key component of the Federal Liberal party’s election mandate was the legalization of recreational marijuana. While a fully functional legislative and regulatory scheme ending the prohibition of cannabis is currently in advanced development, the prospects of legalized cannabis in the workplace has some companies feeling more than a little dazed and confused. But cannabis, at least in some instances, is already legal and is already in our workplaces. All of this begs the question: what are the risks and challenges that cannabis presents to the workplace in a changing legislative and cultural landscape?

This Roundtable discussion will be led by two lawyers from Kent Employment Law and Reach Legal:
David Brown is an individualist. His nonconformist mindset and passion for transformation set him apart in a profession steeped (and sometimes mired) in tradition. Where others spot problems, David sees possibility and promise. He understands and appreciates not just the practice but the business of law. Add to all this his disarming wit, bellowing voice, and lofty stature, and there’s no mistaking him in a crowd. A trusted workplace advisor to companies in BC’s Interior & North.
Erin Brandt Erin is what Malcolm Gladwell calls a connector. Strong community roots, genuine curiosity and a deep caring for others make her a true “people person”. She is forward-thinking, and combines a millennial mindset with legal creativity to create impact and change in her clients’ lives. Her main drivers are fairness and innovation, values which serve Erin well when advising players in emerging industries, as well as more established businesses who want to “do right”.
