Program Details:
The menopause is the time in a woman’s life when they stop menstruating and signals a significant hormonal shift in the body. But why is it also a workplace issue? This webinar will explain what menopause is as well as identifying some of the associated symptoms. It will also cover the reasons why employers need to take it seriously and the circular relationship between menopause symptoms at work. Finally, the webinar will discuss some of the things employers can do to support their menopausal staff.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understanding what the menopause is and key facts and figures about this stage in a woman’s reproductive lifecycle
  • Understanding why it is a workplace issue and the impact symptoms can have on work and work can have on symptoms
  • Understanding what employers can do to support staff experiencing these symptoms
Hosted by:
Jo Brewis, PhD works at the Open University Business School, where she is head of an academic department. Jo’s research interests include the connections between gender, the body and organizations, something which is reflected in a longstanding focus on menopause as a workplace issue. She co-authored the Government Equalities Office report The effects of menopause transition on women’s economic participation in the UK (2017) and is passionate about ensuring this reproductive life stage stays on employers’ agendas as well as continuing to research in the area. Jo is also an Independent Panel Member for Menopause Friendly Accreditation, which means she is able to see at first hand some of the brilliant work being done in this space. In her spare time, Jo reads a lot of fiction, watches football and loves going to see bands play live as well as watching a lot of TV.
