Program Summary:

As you may be aware the Government of Canada earlier this year announced major changes to Canada’s economic immigration programs.

Those changes include:
  • Express Entry
  • A new Global Skills Strategy
  • A new Global Talent Stream
  • New rules for Short Term Work Permits
  • and the recently announced Global Talent Stream
In April, 2017 CERC hosted a symposium in Vancouver to explore these changes and to provide government officials with our recommendations. The new programs and rules for temporary entry will be effective June 12, 2017.

If your organization accesses international talent, or has employees that travel between Canada and the US, you need to understand the implications these changes will have on your organization.

NAFTA: Employee Mobility Survey

It is now very clear that President Trump wishes to enter into discussions with Canada and Mexico on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

As you know the movement of employees between Canada and the US is vitally important to businesses on both sides of the border. It is becoming increasingly challenging for employees to cross between our two countries, and the outdated TN Occupations list is not meeting the needs of business. It is vitally important that business has a voice in these discussions.

The Canadian Employee Relocation Council is gathering information about the challenges companies encounter when sending employees across the Canada / US Border. We invite you to share your experiences in this short survey.

Results of the survey will assist the business community in presenting recommendations to both the Canadian and US governments in efforts to modernize the mobility provisions of the NAFTA.

All responses will remain confidential and only aggregate results will be reported.

Deadline for completion of the survey is June 5, 2017.
