Hiring the right people is an integral part of any company’s success and doing so will continue to be challenging in todays market. With the unemployment rate at its lowest in BC in decades, it is important now more than previously for employers to get ahead of issues and consider factors prohibiting newcomers from entering the market to getting hired. Employers can create new ways to address barriers newcomers are experiencing and look forward to filling gaps sooner and have more great candidates join their teams.

About the presenters:

Olivia Hanson Olivia Hanson, CPHR is the HR Business Partner, British Columbia and North with the Business Development Bank of Canada. A strategic partner to the regional leadership teams she is responsible for providing coaching and advice to leaders and employees across the region on all HR aspects and business initiatives.

Over the last several years, Olivia has worked in partnership with the Immigration Employment Council of BC supporting initiatives and implementing programs within the B.C & North region to assist and support New Canadians and Refugee workplace integration.

Olivia has over 10 years experience in the Human Resource industry and before joining BDC held progressive HR Business Partner and Generalist positions in the Resources and Telecommunications industries. International experience includes work in Canada, Australia, China and New Zealand supporting both established national organizations and rapidly growing global organizations.

Olivia holds a Bachelor of Commerce & Administration, Human Resources & Industrial Relations and Commercial law from the Victoria University of Wellington. In addition, she holds her Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) designation in British Columbia and a Certificate in First Line Management, Business Administration and Management from the Universal College of Learning.

Mandy Mann Mandy Mann, CPHR is the HR Manager with STORMTECH Performance Apparel. In her role she is accountable for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive range of human resources programs and services. As a senior HR practitioner with 10 years’ experience, she has had the opportunity to work at a Fortune 100 company in the past where she developed a successful onboarding program for newcomers. Mandy holds a Bachelors in Business Administration (Honours) from Simon Fraser University, majoring in Human Resources and Marketing, and is CPHR certified.

Sangeeta Subramanian Sangeeta Subramanian is the Senior Manager, Workplace Development at IEC-BC and brings to her role 20 years of professional experience in the not-for-profit sector in Canada as well as Asia. This encompasses strategic planning, facilitation, cultural intelligence training, policy development, partnership development, program design and coordination, mentoring, leadership development and civic engagement. She has held Project Manager and Coordinator roles with the Maytree Foundation, South Asian Women’s Centre and Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI). Sangeeta holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Madras, India, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management. Additionally, she has a Certificate in Non-Profit Management and Leadership from the Schulich School of Business, York University. She brings to her role a passion for working on issues of diversity, inclusion, access and equity and integration of immigrants into Canadian workplace and society.
