Program Details:
This presentation will discuss the findings from an Ontario study that sought to identify strategies for the successful return-to-work of injured workers who experience language barriers. Based on interviews with injured workers and key informants from various sectors, we describe challenges in the return-to-work process and propose recommendations to better navigate return-to-work in contexts of language barriers.

Learning Objectives:
  • To develop an understanding how language barriers can shape the work injury/illness and return-to-work experience.
  • To reflect on how challenges that arise from language barriers in the return-to-work process may be identified and addressed by stakeholders.
Hosted by:
Stephanie Premji is an Associate Professor at the School of Labour Studies at McMaster University. She is interested in the working conditions, health problems and access to care and compensation of immigrant and racialized workers. Dr. Premji is the author of the edited collection Sick and Tired: Health and Safety Inequalities (2018, Fernwood Publishing).
