The Workplace Investigations Certificate is a three-day course, with a focus on three training topics. The courses may be taken as a stand-alone, or as a full three-day program. Pre-requisite is not required. A certificate will be awarded for each day of completion. Disclaimer: This training deals with sensitive subject matter related to harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination and abuse in the workplace. Real case studies are utilized with real language from them. Day 1: April 23, 2024 Workplace Investigations Training - The Fundamentals
This workshop provides the participant with the basic skills required to conduct a successful workplace investigation. Topics and modules include: - Fundamental principles of successful investigations
- Investigator skills, emotional intelligence, and bias recognition
- Investigation planning
- Evidence identification, collection and preservation
- Basic interviewing techniques (theory)
- Evidence analysis
- Findings
- Note taking
- Report writing
Day 2: April 24, 2024 Workplace Investigations Training - Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Psycho-Social Violence
This workshop provides the participant with an understanding of the introductory skills required to conduct a successful investigation into allegations of psycho-social violence in the workplace. Topics include: - Fundamentals of psychological health and safety
- Legal implications - Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Act, Employment and Labour law and standards
- Definitions and Differences : Harassment, Discrimination, Bullying, Violence, Threat Assessments, Sexual violence, cyber-bullying
- Identifying the elements of the psycho-social misconduct
- Identifying the test to come to a finding on a psycho-social misconduct allegation
- Identifying the difficulties and landmines specific to investigations psycho-social misconduct (he said/she said)
- Case Studies and analysis
Day 3: April 25, 2024 Workplace Investigations Training - Advanced
This workshop is designed for practitioners who have taken Day One and Day Two, or who have substantial experience and training in workplace investigations. Topics include: - Investigating Dark Triad and High Conflict personalities
- Trauma informed interviewing
- Case Study and Interviewing role play
- Conducting Credibility Assessments (critical on a he said/she said)
- Coming to a finding on a they said / they said
- Identifying Aggravating and Mitigating factors in an investigation

About Bob Stenhouse:
|
Bob Stenhouse has been conducting, overseeing and case managing investigations for close to 40 years. First as an organized crime, undercover and homicide investigator in the RCMP, and later as a human rights and workplace investigations consultant. Bob then spent ten years as the leader of a Corporate Investigations Unit for Alberta Health Services (largest employer in Alberta and highly unionized) - where he and his team conducted the most complex and high-risk investigations into internal workplace misconduct across the province. Bob has developed and delivered workplace investigations training to over 1000 HR professionals in Canada with a specific focus on person-on-person allegations of misconduct, harassment, bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination.
Bob is the founder and CEO of Veritas Solutions, a Human Resource Risk Management firm conducting over 250 investigations a year.
Bob is a passionate, engaging, and seasoned instructor and facilitator and is committed to ensuring that participants are getting the most out of their training experience. Bob has stories and case studies that will illuminate the investigative concepts in real and tangible ways, plus there are lots of laughs to be had along the way.
